The most traumatic memory that I have worked with …

Hi friends,

Today I want to share with you almost miracle like session.  A lady client in her early 40s came for counseling as she was getting overwhelming emotional reactions to normal day to day things and as she was in a good post at her work it was becoming difficult for her to manage herself.

She was a widower, her husband expired only after six months of her marriage, a love marriage at that time. We worked on some issues that she was facing at home front due to her being at her mother’s house as her brother and his family staying together. She was getting back on track according to her.

In our 6th session she disclosed that her husband had committed suicide and the whole thing happened in front of her eyes and before she could realise what had happened he was already dead. Obviously she was shaken up while narrating the incident so I asked her to only guess what she would have felt if she was to describe the incident to me(tearless trauma technique), she guessed and we took some tapping rounds till her guess became manageable.

Then I asked her to start narrating the incident and let me know the moment she feels anything about whatever she was describing (tell a story technique). She went on narrating the whole incident in between stopping to tell me that she was having different feelings while narrating it , we worked on each and every stop and by the end of the session she was able to describe the whole incident to me without getting overwhelmed about it. It did take up good three hours to get the whole thing to a level of non attachment to the event but we managed.

That was one of the most satisfying work that I had done till now. That memory was not one of her best memories but she was able to ‘let go’ of overwhelming emotions attached to that memory. She was able to see that as one of the unfortunate event in her life and it would have been better if she could do something about it but she was able to let go of ‘shoulds’ about that incident.

Since we worked on that incident we saw a steady progress in her emotional management in her professional as well as personal life.

Happy to have been able to help her deal with one of the worst kind of trauma a human being can go through.

EFT for weight management

EFT for weight management

Over the years I have dealt with quite a few clients who had issues with their weight management.

And most of my clients did make a good progress. The ones who made progress had two things in common

  1. They were ready to come for sessions regularly and for a longer period of time
  2. They also practiced EFT at home

In this article I  want to share a story of a lady, who was overweight, in her 40s, and had tried everything from rigorous exercise to strict diet to lose weight but with little success. She would lose weight when she would exercise and diet but somehow could not continue on the regime and gain back more weight then she lost.

She got to know about me from a client of mine who was a trainer in a gym.

She met me and I explained her process of EFT in the first session.

From next session we worked on some things that she was getting attracted to like wafers, chocolates and ice cream. Then we tried to find out the root cause that may be contributing to her anxiety and would be pushing her towards having wafers, chocolates or ice cream.

Initially some sessions went into our doing the detective work trying to find out root cause. We were getting some result like she was not so tempted to eat those things but the temptation was still present.

I was getting a hunch that there was something important involved which we were not able to reach to. So on further exploration she was able to remember an incident when she was 7 years old, it was her brother’s birthday and she had dressed up very beautifully and everyone was appreciating her. And she was feeling very good about herself and that day one of the friend of her father tried to abuse her sexually she was able to get out of the room before he could do it. But she remembered his words saying that “she was so pretty”.

When we were talking about it she realized that from that day onwards her need to look good had become almost gone away. She remembered that on many occasions after that she would not get dressed up well.  We realized that after that incident she had developed aversion towards looking good. Because in her mind the connection was set between looking good and attracting unwanted attention. She also told me that before that day she had an average weight. But slowly she gained weight.

So we decided to work on that incident with EFT, it took us 4 sessions to release whatever reaction she was having about it. And since then over the period of 6 months with regular sessions, exercise and some diet alteration she was able to lose weight.

The reason I am sharing this story is because sometimes we are not even aware what exactly is causing the condition that we are facing today. In this lady’s example the weight gain was a symptom of the root cause that told her that if she will look good then she will be in for a trouble, sometimes when we go through such traumatic incidents our mind makes such connections which may actually have no basis in the reality.

Fear of giving presentation in front of the class

Fear of giving presentation in front of the class

I was working in a junior college as a student counselor and a girl who was studying in second year of B.A. she was a shy and introverted person.  The reason she came to me was she wanted to be more social and wanted to talk freely to people around her.

While this was a very big goal. We thought we will start with small things. The first thing that came up was she was supposed to give a presentation to her class, next week. When we started talking about her giving a presentation in front of the whole class, I could see her facial expressions changing. She was looking pale, her throat was constricting, and her heart started pounding. Looking at that I explained her about tapping. We did some 5 to 6 rounds of tapping directly on her constriction in throat, heart pounding, and stomach churning. And she was able to see herself being in front of the whole class giving the presentation without any of the above physical changes.  But to be surer we did the tapping for her anxiety for another two sessions.

Next week when she gave her presentation she was able to give it with a good level of confidence.

We definitely had to work on her shyness for many sessions.

I think we were able to get good result for her presentation anxiety was because she did not have any negative conditioning previous experiences with regards to public speaking. As in she did not have any previous experience with public speaking at all. If we had somebody who had experiences where the person was ridiculed or embarrassed on many occasions, we would have had to clear those incidences with tapping and that probably would have taken a longer time then this case.

Hope you enjoyed this

Chocolate craving disappeared…..:)

How chocolate craving was subsided because of tapping (EFT)

I had conducted a workshop in 2010. As I was demonstrating how tapping can help us control and minimize the craving that we have. In most of my workshops I have seen almost immediate result as far as craving is concerned. I remember this specific one because it was a very delightful experience.

Once I explained the basic steps of EFT. I asked the participants if they had craving for some food. One of the ladies had a strong craving for chocolate. She had developed the habit of having something sweet after lunch. She was so habituated to sweet after lunch that she told me that her office was on 5th floor and if she did not have sweet with her she had to compulsively go down and buy something sweet.

Coincidentally we had just finished our lunch at that point. And she had a chocolate in her purse which she was about to eat. But when she heard my announcement about working on cravings, she decided to give this chocolate craving try with tapping.

I told her to just look at the chocolate and tell me how tempted she was to eat it. She was so tempted that her mouth was watering just looking at it (how many people’s mouth is watering ;)). So we did basic tapping round two times and her craving went to almost zero just looking at it. Then I told her to open the wrapper and smell it, and her craving again went up. After one tapping round it went to zero. Then I told her to keep looking at the chocolate and tell me if she wanted it. And she said that she could not believe that just 10 minutes back she would have eaten the whole chocolate but now she was ok not having it. Till the end of that day she did not feel like having it.

We had next level of workshop after a week, when I met her I checked with her about the craving. She told me that the whole week she had not eaten chocolate and once when she felt like eating it she did tapping on her own and the craving went away.

I have been in contact with that person and she reports that she does eat chocolates on and off but she does not get the kind of craving she used to get.

I also need to emphasize here is that not all craving goes away like this. In some case we have to work more hard and go deeper reasons for the craving. But if we work consistently we can manage our cravings and even stop it.

Tapping can be used to delay our cravings, every time you get the craving you tap immediately and you will see that your craving will go away

If you want to let go of craving altogether then it is always better to work on emotional issues that is making you crave that particular thing. It can be chocolate, cigarette, alcohol, shopping, television, internet or anything. Generally behind most of the craving and addiction there is an unresolved emotional issue that may be creating anxiety and to deal with the anxiety we tend to get attracted to things that calm us down and over the period it becomes craving or addiction.

Hope this article helped….

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a combination of Energy Psychology and Acupressure. It is one of the most powerful techniques to clear our overwhelming emotions.

we need to focus on the issue or problem and simultaneously tap on specific meridian points on our body. This is a process and the more we practice it and learn it thoroughly the better the results. It is being used by many professionals like Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Coaches , Doctors, Teachers etc.

The some of the areas in which EFT has been beneficial are:

EFT helps in reducing and releasing the emotional overwhelm we feel when we are stressed, thus making us calmer and helpi clearer in taking rational decisions in the stressful scenarios.

As per the new research, stimulating the meridian points on our body deactivates the signal to (Amygdala), reducing the Limbic arousal and allowing us to be calm in a previously stressful situation.
